Well that is their right, and as IT pro’s we need to show more respect to customer service! The quick fire way to improve user experience today in Azure Virtual Desktop is enabling Multimedia Redirection.
In Microsoft’s words “Multimedia redirection (MMR) gives you smooth video playback while watching videos in a browser in Azure Virtual Desktop. Multimedia redirection redirects the media content from Azure Virtual Desktop to your local machine for faster processing and rendering. Both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome support this feature.”
How is this configured? It is really simple, some config on your session hosts and ensuring your running the latest Windows Desktop Client on your end user device.
- Session Host: Ensure Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2015-2022, version 14.32.31332.0 or later is installed
- Session Host: Deploy Multi Media Redirect
- Session Host: Configure the browser extension
- End User Device: Install version 1.2.3916 or above
