Modernising Critical Services for Avon Fire & Rescue Service

Foundations to do more more.

Building a secure, cloud-first technology platform to support an insourced IT service

Avon Fire & Rescue Service partnered with INTEGY during a pivotal period of change, as the organisation moved towards an insourced IT operating model while modernising technology that had become increasingly difficult to evolve.

Working as an extension of the internal team, INTEGY helped deliver a secure and scalable Microsoft platform, transforming infrastructure, end-user computing and remote desktop services while maintaining operational continuity across a 24/7 emergency service.

The challenge

AF&RS faced a number of interconnected technology challenges:

  • Ageing on-premises infrastructure
  • Inconsistent endpoint management
  • Ongoing Windows 11 adoption
  • Legacy Remote Desktop Services approaching end of life
  • The need to build a sustainable insourced IT capability

The organisation required a partner that could provide both technical expertise and practical support throughout the transformation journey.

The Solution

INTEGY worked alongside the AF&RS team to deliver a modern Microsoft technology platform, including:

Azure Migration

  • Designed and implemented secure Azure foundations and migrated workloads from legacy infrastructure into Microsoft Azure.

Modern Workplace

  • Developed a consistent Windows 11 deployment strategy using Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Entra ID, reducing complexity and improving device management.

Azure Virtual Desktop

  • Replaced legacy remote desktop services with Azure Virtual Desktop, providing secure, scalable access to applications and desktops.

Trusted Partnership

Beyond formal project delivery, INTEGY worked closely with internal teams to remove blockers, support deployment activities and help ensure operational technology, including devices used within fire appliances, was ready for use.

“The value INTEGY brought was not just technical expertise, but access to experienced professionals who could engage directly with challenges, adapt quickly to changing priorities and maintain momentum throughout the programme.”

"This programme was about far more than deploying technology. Avon Fire & Rescue Service was building internal capability while modernising critical systems, and our role was to work alongside the team to make that transition successful.
